摘要

The idea of photographing and documenting my woodcarvings came quite late in my work. There were many pieces that were never photographed and all that remains of these items are the pencil sketches and cutting plans. My early works were deplorable at best. They were imitations of European woodcarvings done in the bas-relief style but I did learn from these early essays into the craft. My skills developed, I learned from my many errors and I read books and magazines. The quality of my output improved to the point that I was able to sell my work ana use those funds to invest in more or better tools. Quality tools are more expensive but they do pay for themselves. One reason I didn't photograph or document my work was because I continued to compare myself to highly skilled woodcarvers. More recently I have been keeping records of my work so that I can compare my latest projects with my earlier efforts and note the advances I have made or need to make.
