摘要

Mangalore Chemicals Fertilizers Limited (MCF) is one of the early zero liquid discharge (ZLD) plants among the fertilizer plants in India. This was achieved through various measures taken in phases right from designing the plants. MCF has implemented different water treatment systems over the years to achieve the target of ZLD. The entire quantity of effluent treatment plant and sewage treatment plant water generated in the premises is reused in the plant. This has reduced daily raw water requirement from 4.0 million gallons per day to 1.6-1.8 million gallons per day. Further, MCF has installed a new chlorine dioxide (C102) generating system to chlorinate the main cooling tower water. This is based on PURATE~R technology, a proprietary technology of NALCO Waters Inc, USA, that was installed for the first time in India at MCF. C102 generated through this process is much more effective concerning its biocidal activities and leads to a reduction in the cooling tower blow down to a maximum extent resulting in further saving of water.
