Q: We have a Maxicut ZNC Sinker that is about 10 years old. We recently moved the machine into a new addition we added to our facility. Since then, we noticed the machine will shut down as if there is a fire in the tank when no fire occurred. One of the operators pointed out this happens on sunny afternoons. I know that sounds strange, but that is, indeed, the case. Can you help explain what may be causing the machine to shut down? A: It's not as strange as it may seem. The machine is equipped with a sensor to offer some protection in the event of a tank fire. This photovoltaic sensor basically senses the light a fire would emit. It's rare, but we have seen cases that the ambient light, sunlight or additional work tank lights can trigger the sensor. There is an adjustment that can be made on the I/O board. Please review the pictures of where the I/O board is and where the adjustment can be made. My recommendation is to adjust in very small increments until you no longer experience the sensor tripping due to ambient light.
