A subsidiary of Japanese electronics company TDK Corp. cannot keep a dispute with the owner of several battery technology patents from leaving New Jersey for Texas, the nation's top patent court has ruled. In a January 14 order, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit denied Amperex Technology Ltd.'s mandamus petition, which sought to overturn a lower court's order transferring the case to the state where Maxell Ltd. had filed patent infringement claims. Amperex, which produces lithium-ion batteries, had filed its suit first, seeking a declaration of noninfringement in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
