European Parliament approves stricter shipment rules/Trade associations attack export prohibition/Industry groups warn of major setbacks for circular economy,plastics recycling

Members of the European Parliament have voted in favour of tighter waste shipment rules and said they are now ready to start negotiating with member states.Talks to finalise the text are to be scheduled later this year.Following a plenary debate on 16 January 2023,a majority of MEPs-594-supported the proposals,while five were against and 43 abstained.The vote follows approval by the parliament's Environment Committee(ENVI)last December.
