Tony Brookes is a well-known and admired technical specialist and his intrinsic nature ensured he was well placed to support Canal Boat technical advice page. RCR and Tony worked together in the early days to develop the most comprehensive training courses on engine and general boat maintenance, and this eventually led to the book Narrowboat Engine Maintenance Repair where Tony's early course book provided the base content. However, the extensive and expansive knowledge base from the RCR team offered an unparallel insight into the quick diagnosis and resolutions of issues and expanded on the core knowledge tony course aimed to deliver. With a focus on diesel engines and their arrangements, the book explains the theory behind the boat's main systems, including propulsion, cooling and electrics, and gives instructions on how to identify key components, how to locate faults and where possible, how to fix them.
