Kirby expects robust barging demand in 2023

Leading tank barge operator Kirby expects its inland utilisa-tion rates to remain high in 2023 amid solid demand from Gulf coast refneries and petrochemical plants. Inland barge utilisation rates held in the 90pc range during the fourth quarter of 2022, restrained by low water conditions on the Mississippi River and winter weather that caused delay days to more than double from the prior quarter.
