Dewatering and fertilization by recycling artificial soils in situ:this is the key aim of the Asphalt Jungle concept. Thanks to the FAIRE project accelerator, this garden blooms in the courtyard of a social housing project developped by Elogie-Siemp, in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. The technically of making this garden may be to cut the asphalt, de-compacting sublayers, using organic materials, and planting without exporting any material. Mixing compacted and sandy existing soil with organic material generates fertile substrate and creates a "neo-soil" (also called "technosol") that is able to care for plants in poor soil conditions. The plant selection is a mix of ornamental, regional, and pioneer plants. This experiment illustrates a strategy for fertilizing urban soils, which may adapt to different climatic conditions for impervious soil reversibility.
