The focal point of the project, the water mirror on the quays of Bordeaux's left bank, faces the magnificent Place de la Bourse, with facades designed in 1730 by Ange-Jacques Gabriel. At the heart of the project was the idea that gardening the quays would bring comfort and the play of shade and light to this part of the city.Although the harsh light in the harbor became scorching in summer, particularly in the square in front of the Bourse, it was not possible to plant tall trees, as on the rest of the quays, in front of the historic buildings of the Bourse that are at the center of the Port de la Lune.
