US green petroleum coke exports rose in 2022 from the year prior, recovering from Covid-19 pandemic lows to a little over 2019 levels, as China remained the top taker on tighter domestic green coke supply. The US exported 33.74mn t of green coke from January- December, up by 11pc from 2021, according to customs data compiled by Global Trade Tracker (GTT). This was also the highest annual amount of US green coke exports since 2018, when the country loaded 35.59mn t. In 2019, the last year before Covid-19 restrictions curbed refinery output, the US exported 33.45mn t.
