It is obvious to say Lucie Rie is well-known in ceramic-circles, often referred to as the godmother of studio pottery. Amongst those familiar with the work of the emigre artist, it would seem there is a general understanding about what a Lucie Rie pot looks like and what her work stood and spoke for. But beyond, there are still those who have never heard of her. There have been very few solo exhibitions of the artist's work in museums and galleries, particularly outside of the ceramic world, despite her mass appeal and widespread impact within it. Her work has largely been shown partnered with contemporaries, most often with Hans Coper, and frequently at the artist's own request.
