The Hinterland Regional Park is located at Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast. This 62-hectare area of land lies at the junction of Bonogin, Mudgeeraba and Wallaby Creeks. The area is mostly flood plain, 4 to 6 metres above sea level with about 15 of the land higher than 6 metres. This land was selected in 1859 and cleared for timber and grazing. In the 1990s a large proportion of the land was purchased by a developer for a housing development. The Gold Coast City Council resumed the land after a period of community objection followed by a win in the Land and Environment Court. In April 1999, the Beaches to Bushland program was launched in this park. We are still restoring vegetation 23 years later with three original members still in the group.
