The short treatise on arithmetic published in this paper lies at the heart of the practical mathematics produced in Southern France during the 15th cen-tury. What makes it original is its purpose : to explain the usual notions of prac-tical arithmetic from their theoretical foundations, a written approach that is, to our knowledge, unprecedented in this corpus. Before proposing a transcrip-tion of the treatise, we place it in its textual environment, its mathematical and pedagogical context.
