Welcome to the May issue of Canal Boat and this month we start with more fantastic photos sent in by our readers, these are followed by the regular Boat Test from Adam Porter and Andy Annable, which this time focuses on Stewart Simm a joiner who after a ten-year process, has at last moved from building sites to becoming a boat-fitter. We then have a brief story about characters and encounters on the waterways. Martin Ludgate then gives us the history on the Anderton Boat Lift, followed by the Cruise Guide along the Sheffield South Yorkshire Navigation and then the Cruise Guide Extra looks at what's left of the old Barnsley and Dearne Dove canals! We take a brief look at a couple more of the editor's favourite paintings featuring canals, this time by John Constable and Patrick Boniface explores the River Rother, while not one of the longest rivers in England, the Rother in East Sussex certainly is one of the prettiest, and in the last of our features, Tim Coghlan takes us on a winter walk - Bristol fashion! Plus, we have all the regulars including; recipes, gardening tips and wildlife seen on our waterways to keep you entertained as we try to work out how much worse off we are after the Spring Budget.
