In preparing this issue with our partners from "Cercle de l'Arbalete" and the regiments attached to France's Special Operations Command, we found ourselves in unfamiliar territory. A world of humility that does not seek to glorify individuals; a collective in which the steadfast efforts of its members are driven only by passion, where a straight line is never the shortest way to connect two points, and where creativity will always be the key to success of an operation. "Think differently to act differently" is the COS motto, and this is also the state of mind adopted at the beginning of the Second World War by two young Scottish and Irish officers who, in order to counter the superiority of the German Army, had the idea of forming bold, agile, tactical units to pursue strategic objectives. The first SAS regiment was born. Far from Hollywood cliches, it is these nonconformist approaches that the reader is invited to share in the pages that follow.
