A field experiment was conducted at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during rabi season of 2017-18 with the objective to study yield, nutrient uptake and economics of wheat varieties under different sources of nitrogen. The experiment was designed with split plot technique using five wheat varieties viz. WH-1105, WH-1142, HD-3086, HD-2967 and DBW-88 assisted in main plots and three different nitrogen source viz. 100 per cent RDN through inorganic source (urea), 100 per cent RDN through organic source (vermicompost) and 50 per cent RDN through inorganic + 50 per cent RDN through organic source assisted in sub plots with three replications. The results of the study revealed that, HD 1105 produced significantly higher grain yield by 6.1 to 22.5 over other wheat varieties. Nutrient (NPK) content in grain and straw did not differ significantly among the varieties. However, NP uptake was significantly influenced by nitrogen sources in grain as well as in straw except K content. The N, P and Kuptake was significantly higher under 50 per cent RDN through inorganic + 50 per cent through organic source as compared to 100 per cent RDN through organic source and was statistically at par with 100 per cent RDN through inorganic source. In terms of profitability, significantly higher net returns and benefit cost ratio were achieved under the variety WH-1105, while the lowest values were obtained under the variety DBW-88. Among the nitrogen sources, application of 100 N through urea produced highernet returns than other nitrogen sources due to lower cost of production.
