摘要

After the closure of the former campsite Eekhoornhof (squirrel court), this area was left fallow, covered with grass, low plants, and shrubs with high trees scattered about. The municipality decided to redevelop this area into a residential neighborhood for young families. Marie-Jose Van Hee worked on 2 tracks: the development of a circular route of streets to serve the 62 housing units and the design of the pattern of healthy beeches and oaks on the site. Fusing these 2 quests led to redrawing and defining the streets, with several chicanes around the thick stems. A zone of trees along the main accessway was saved from grubbing and is used as a safe bicycle path along the site. To keep the houses affordable for young families, they were designed in a very compact way. The stairs bring in light and organize the house. Placing windows on different sides of the house makes one aware of the movement of the sun and time. The floor plans of the prototype houses vary according to orientation. Pavement was kept to a minimum, with carports keeping the whole composition airy.
