Otdham-based contractor Coating Services has started work on a ￡650,000 programme of maintenance to the eighteenth century Harrington Bridge (pictured) at Sawley in Matlock for Derbyshire County Council. Cabinet member for highways assets and transport, Cllr Kewal Singh Athwal, said: 'Following detailed surveys, we identified the need to give Harrington Bridge a major overhaul and refurbishment to make it fit for many years of use.' Work to the 60 metre-long twin span bridge that carries the B6540 over the River Trent includes carriageway resurfacing, replacement of expansion joints and installing a reinforced concrete leaf at the central pier, and must be complete by mid-October.
