Many decisions made by farmers not only directly impact the health, productivity and profitability of their own flock, but also have implications beyond their individual farm.If we are better able to understand how these decisions are made, we will be able to successfully support the development of best practices, initiatives and policies.Research around stakeholder decision making is ongoing at Nottingham University, and a key area of farm decision-making research is around antibiotic use. As part of an AHDB-funded PhDresearch project, six studies were conducted looking at sheep and beef farmers’practices, opinions, and decision-making on antibiotic use.The work highlighted six common factors that influenced farmers’antibiotic decision-making - identity, experience, social norms, capability, responsibility and emotion.
