The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) expects to have enough generation resources to meet electricity demand during most peak periods, but January "may be challenging" if extreme weather coincides with unplanned generation outages. The grid operator is expecting demand to peak at 101GW this winter, according to slides from a presentation at MISO's winter readiness workshop this week. And in the most likely scenario, MISO will have 106GW of non-emergency generating capacity and 11.3GW of load-modifying resources and operational reserves to be available in January.
