Development of the Nursing Professional Development Scope and Standards of Practice Overview

In alignment with the American Nurses Association’s (ANA, 2017, 2021b) requirement that specialty nursing associations update their- scope and standards every 5 years, the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) appointed us to lead the work of updating the nursing professional development (NPD) scope and standards. As we started the process, we were aware of the success of the 2016 scope and standards (Harper Maloney, 2016), which had exceptional sales after the opening ceremony launch at the 2016 ANPD convention and remained one of ANPD’s best-selling products in the ensuing years. The NPD practice model has been adopted by NPD departments across die United States and even the globe. It has also been used by professional development practitioners in other professions.
