The Indonesian government agreed to start allowing the re- sumption of coal exports following a multi-ministerial meeting on 12 January. It was decided during the meeting that 37 ships that had been loaded with coal as of that date and had been paid for by the respective buyers will be allowed to travel to their destina- tions to avoid the risk of fre due to the exposure of coal to the elements. As of 13 January, 18 ships with a combined tonnage of 1.4mn t were released for immediate export. Indonesian ex- ports of all types of coal totalled 38.3mn t in January last year, according to customs data.
