As the market for electric vehicles (EVs) grows, global charging infrastructure is trying to keep pace. There is significant demand for EV charging stations that provide higher current and faster charging speeds, but in a safe, flexible, consumer-friendly design. For OEMs, these challenges are compounded by the fact that both AC and DC charging stations must be made available. There are different power levels for each, and there is not an international standard for the charging interface. Several countries have their own interfaces, as do individual automakers. This makes for a complex EV charging landscape. Fortunately, there are steps that OEMs and city planners can take, as they map out their EV charging infrastructure needs. The first place to begin is by addressing the considerations below.
