During an initial Internet search there appeared to be some resemblance to Buprestis novemmaculata Linnaeus, but it lacked the pale edges to the sides of the pronotum that some images showed. Several pictures were then posted on the Beetles British Isles newsgroup (beetles-britishisles@yahoogroups.com - now closed). Brian Levey and Richard Lyszkowski quickly responded confirming B. novemmaculata, with Brian also explaining that it is a widespread pine associated species on the continent. Ouff (2018) includes B. novcmmaculata in the list of non-established introductions.
