Climate change is widely recognized not just as an environmental issue but one with severe socioeconomic implications across the globe. Carbon sequestration as one of the important directions for reducing carbon emissions, with the advantages of safety, economy, and high efficiency, is an environmentally friendly way to reduce carbon emissions. Trees remove atmospheric carbon through photosynthesis that stores a tremendous amount of carbon in their structures. They act as a major CO_2 sink which captures carbon from the atmosphere and stores it in the form of fixed biomass. The present study is a sustainability initiative to inventory the tree species on the campus and assess their total carbon sequestration potential (CSP). Individual trees on the campus were measured for their height and diameter at breast height (DBH), and estimates of carbon storage were performed using allometric equations. Thus, the present investigation is carried out to calculate the carbon sequestration of 18 standing tree species in DCM Shriram Ltd., Sugar Unit - Loni campus. The biomass and total organic carbon of standing trees is estimated by the non destructive method. The population of silver oak (Grevillea robusta) is more in the campus. Industries have an important role in expanding their green cover so as to act as local carbon sinks.
