In this paper we consider finite element model updating problem for symmetric tridiagonal positive definite matrix pencil L(λ)=λM+K and for T-odd tridiagonal positive definite matrix pencil L(λ). Model updating problem for STP and ToddTP has been solved by updating the matrix K only, then by updating M only and thereafter by simultaneous updating of M and K both. We have presented a necessary and sufficient condition for tridiagonal updating of M only and K only, whereas for the case of simultaneous updating of M and K both, we have prescribed a sufficient condition for simultaneous tridiagonal updating of M and K. At last, our theoretical results are supported with numerical examples.
