Philonthus discoideus (Gravenhorst) is a species associated with litter piles, and is recorded mainly from England but with old records for Ireland and the Isle of Man (Lott & Anderson, 2011). There are also a few eastern Scottish records (NBN Atlas, 2020). In Ireland it has been recorded in Cos. Armagh, Fermanagh and Dublin (Johnson & Halbert, 1902) and on Arklow Beach, Co.Wicklow (Halbert, 1937). In England the bulk of records are for East Anglia across to the English Midlands (NBN Atlas, 2020) and it is everywhere described as local.
