Geismar-Origin Materials said the Louisiana State Bond Commission has approved up to $1.5-billion of tax-exempt bonds to finance construction of Origin 2, a world-scale manufacturing facility to be built in Geismar, La., that would produce polyethylene terephthalate from renewable wood fibers (PCN, 21 Feb 2022, p 1). Origin 2 would utilize Origin Materials' patented technology to convert around 1-million t/y of wood residues into products for a wide range of end products. Front-end design is underway with detailed engineering scheduled to start this year. Operations are expected to begin in mid-2025.
