The attraction of small succulents to people who like to grow plants in pots at borne is one reason the MSG exists. South African succulents have been popular with hobbyist growers worldwide for literally hundreds of years. They are mostly small and easily adapt to pot culture. There are many commercial succulent plant nurseries and hobbyist growers worldwide.Plant collecting from habitat, surreptitiously in small miinbeis by eathusiastslias always happened. It’s mostly where ail the plants in collections originated. But often not by choice. Most people would have preferred to do it legally by permit, bat the system doesn’t allow for anyone but academics or botanists, etc, to be granted a permit by ‘CapeNatiire’ to collect. Even a serious hobbyist grower who studies deeply into a single geasis for example has historically had their enquiry refused or even ignored. Unless writing a book or studying for a PhD a "regular Joe” would never get a permit to collect a few seeds or cuttings simply to grow on and propagate in ex-sita cultivation.
