Multibranched aliphatic side chains for pi-conjugated polymers with a high density of 'unshielded' aromatics

The synthesis of strongly solubilising multibranched aliphatic side chains for pi-conjugated polymers is reported. The solubilising capability of the side chains and their effect on the polymer properties are studied on the example of copolymers composed of up to six unsubstituted, 'unshielded' thiophene units per side chain-substituted naphthalene diimide unit.
