In this investigation potential of nonwoven in hydroponic and micro-farmingsystems has been determined. Two different nonwoven fabric samples viz. 1000g/m Polyester thermal bonded nonwoven fabric and 100 g/m Viscose needle 2 2punch nonwoven fabric was used to develop micro-farming systems. Polyesterthermal bonded nonwoven fabric was used as it is to form the hydroponic systemand Viscose needle punch nonwoven fabric was used as mulch. Two types of seedswere sown in both systems viz. Fenugreek and Black Gram and the growth of bothplants on developed systems were determined. Results were compared with astandard conventional soil-based system. All three systems were kept in shadehouse to maintain the same growth condition. It has been found that plants aregrown on 100 g/m Viscose nonwoven fabric as a mulch gave comparative higher 2growth rate than other two systems. There is no significant difference in the growthrate of plants grown on thermal bonded nonwoven and in soil.
