Beef producers everywhere are feeling the squeeze at the moment as dry seasons and reduced export demand take their toll on the bottom line of beef enterprises. All cattle prices are lower than they were three years ago and while many like to point the finger at supermarkets for putting all the price pressure back on the producer, the reality is that the Australian cattle industry is producing too much beef in a depressed market. With export markets taking less beef, there is more hitting the domestic market. Increased supply on the domestic market with constant (or perhaps reduced) demand means prices must fall.
