NOVEL REACTOR PHYSICS COUPLED WITH advances in computer analytics are set to lead to commercial fusion within the next decade. This is according to Michl Binderbauer, CEO of TAE Technologies, the world's largest private fusion energy company. According to TAE, its proprietary beam-driven field-reversed configuration (FRC) and plans for a hydrogen-boron fuel source sets it apart from competing fusion technologies. "Most efforts in fusion have led us to looking at the problem more in an academic insular near-term way. People have looked at the next easiest, lowest risk thing that can be done. That may not lead to something that ultimately becomes commercial and competitive in the market," explains Binderbauer.
