How is this different from earlier systems?Recently, you may have noticed an increase in the variations in the aspect ratios of the images in movies and on internet video services, such as a wider aspect ratio compared to TV, or a vertical aspect ratio to fit smartphones. For many of these non-television video services, directors manage to produce content with various aspect ratios depending on their artistic intent or the screen shape of the targeted device. As for these video services, directors in broadcast stations have increasing opportunities to produce content with various aspect ratios.However, except for a few production environments, directors are only able to handle an aspect ratio of 16∶9 in current production studios in broadcast stations. This is why we are conducting R&D on video signal transmission methods and production equipment that allow the directors to freely select aspect ratios for producing TV programs in broadcast stations. Our research will enable new and enjoyable forms of video such as a wider aspect ratio that can provide an expansive view of the entire field when covering a soccer game.
