HVAC end-users hunting for energy and carbon reductions need to drill down to the component level, says Future Motors. Last year, at the H&V News Awards, the winner of the Low Carbon Achievement Award turned a few heads in the HVAC sector. A relatively unknown company called Future Motors impressed the judges with its evidence of significant energy efficiency gains on a number of sites with retailer Wilko. The key element in the energy reduction was the use of the Turntide Smart Motor System, a "High Rotor Pole" switch reluctance motor (SRM) from US manufacturer, Turntide Motors - itself not one of the 'usual' motor manufacturers to feature in the HVAC world - in the air handling units.
