Purpose of Study: To report on the indications and outcomes of the Boyd/modified Pirogoff surgical technique by analyzing surgeries performed at the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Zurich (from 1999 to 2018) and to systematically review the literature. Approach: Five men and two women who underwent Boyd surgeries were followed for an average of 62 months (ranging from ten to 242 months). Co-morbidities evaluated included vascular diseases, neuropathy and diabetes. Outcomes were evaluated by assessing ability to walk (full weightbearing) without prosthesis, Prosthetic Limb Users Survey of Mobility (PLUS-M) score, stump survivorship, postoperative discrepancies in leg length, time taken for fusion and mobilization.
