This issue's Woodland Owner piece comes from Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) in southern Africa. Although I'm here continuing a longterm research project investigating the sustainability of fast-growing pine plantations, one cannot fail to notice what small woodland owners and entrepreneurs are doing. And it has set me thinking. It is common throughout much of highland Africa that, even on a hectare of land, trees will be grown for domestic use and occasionally for sale. Eswatini is no exception.
