Maryland’s governor is throwing his support behind a push toinstall 8.5 GW of offshore wind capacity in the state’s Atlanticwaters as part of a plan to fully decarbonize its power sectorby 2035.The 8.5-GW target of Governor Wes Moore, a Democrat,which was announced in a March 29 speech to the InternationalOffshore Wind Partnering Forum in Baltimore, follows thestate Senate’s approval earlier this month of a bill setting a2031 deadline to meet that goal. A similar bill is currently beingconsidered in the state House of Delegates. To date, Marylandhas authorized the construction of four offshore wind projectswith a combined capacity of just over 2 GW.
