Duke Energy Corp. and Ford Motor Co. are collaborating on aninnovative way to provide backup electricity and load balancing forthe grid.Duke said Aug. 16 it has filed for regulatory approval in NorthCarolina of a demand response pilot program the company expects tolaunch in 2023 for customers in the Duke Energy Carolinas LLC serviceterritory.Under the pilot program filed with the North Carolina UtilitiesCommission, Duke plans to enroll up to 100 customers who will receiveincentives that reduce lease payments by about $25 per month foran eligible electric vehicle, including the Ford F-150 Lightning. Thesecustomers, in turn, will allow their electric vehicles to feed energy backto the grid to help balance peak demand.
