Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro is pressuring state-controlled Petrobras to prevent retail fuel prices from rising ahead of the second round of presidential elections on 30 October. Bolsonaro upped government spending and cut fuel taxes ahead of the frst round on 2 October in a bid to improve ap-proval ratings, and appears to be pursuing the same strategy ahead of the run-of vote. His government has contacted mem-bers of Petrobras’ board of directors, asking them not to hike fuel prices before the vote.
