Sir - Knowledge is everything and now having seen the actual costs involved in providing the magazine to the individual membership I see this as a trivial amount of money for what is a quality and much treasured item. Earlier reports of a major cost hike gave the impression of a pending dire situation which led me to reluctantly vote to go digital. However having now seen the actual figures I no longer subscribe to this view. In my view a doubling of the cost to £2 per issue would still be excellent value. ‘Downgrading' to a digital format over such a trivial amount seems to me a great loss and one that I can no longer support. I will even go as far as to predict that there may even be a loss of membership (present and future) because a hard copy magazine is a readily visible embodiment of an organisation. In my view, relegating it to a digital format will remove the magazine from immediate and lasting view and could turn out to be an off-put to potential authors and thus lead to a loss of quality when it comes to content (and enjoyment).
