Joseph Kennedy,who holds a doctorate and an MBA,is distinguished professor of polymer science and chemistry at the University of Akron.After two years of post-doctoral work in Paris and Montreal,respectively,he carried out industrial research for 13 years(Celanese,Exxon),following which he started his academic career in 1970.He is teaching and carries out research in the field of elastomers and biomaterials.His main interest is the creation of new useful polymers and devices for medicine and premium industrial applications.Kennedy is the inventor/co-inventor of over 140 issued U.S.patents,plus many foreign patents.Some of his inventions have been commercialized and generated billions of dollars of revenue His coating for coronary drug-eluting stents,licensed and marketed by Boston Scientific Co.,has been implanted in over 6 million patients.
