摘要

The development of atelectasis during navigational bronchoscopy poses a challenge for bronchoscopists. Atelectasis can obscure peripheral pulmonary nodules, worsen computed tomography (CT)-to-body divergence, and negatively impact diagnostic yield. In the I-LOCATE study, Sagar et al demonstrated that atelectasis is fairly common during bronchoscopy under general anesthesia (GA) with over half of patients developing atelectasis in all dependent segments after 30 minutes of GA. Higher body mass index and time under GA were associated with atelectasis development. Attention has turned to atelectasis prevention during peripheral bronchoscopy procedures.
