Abstract Optics has been successfully used in data processing and communications due to its inherent advantages. For communication of data, it is often needed to encode the data signal for several reasons. Manchester coded data signal is the encoded clock and data of a synchronous bit stream. Here, an all-optical scheme to achieve the Manchester coded data from a polarization encoded optical data signal is proposed. For this scheme, the switching capacity of the Kerr type optical nonlinear material has been utilized.
