Nuclear Energy 101, a course for congressional staffers in D.C., is back. After a hiatus of a few years, the American Nuclear Society hosted the first session of the five-part course on March 1 in the Rayburn House Office Building. This educational series has always been a great- and popular-tool for ANS to network with congressional staff and explain the basics of nuclear science and technology. Now that the country has returned (in many ways) to pre-pandemic ways, ANS thought it was the perfect time to relaunch the Nuclear Energy 101 program. The March 1 session featured Candace Davison, a longtime ANS member and STEM educator for over 30 years. Her presentation, "Totally Rad," is an introduction to radiation and nuclear energy concepts that focuses on separating myth from fact. Davison said, "The Nuclear 101 program from ANS is a helpful tool for staffers to learn about nuclear energy and ask questions of the experts at these events. It also benefits the Society by showing those in Congress that ANS is a helpful resource on all things nuclear."
