The uprising in Kazakhstan may not prove to be the only case in 2022 in the region — or even farther abroad — where anger at rising household bills spills into the street. The lessons from the oil powerhouse of Central Asia, where the vio- lence that left 160 people dead was sparked by the lifting of price caps on liquefed petroleum gas, will not be lost on neighboring states.
