Subcoccinella vigintiquattuorpunctata (Linnaeus) (Coccinellidae) established in coastal Northern Ireland associated with an unusual food plant, Silene uniflora

The 24-spot ladybird Subcoccinella vigintiquattuorpunctata (Linnaeus) is included in the Irish checklist of Anderson et al. (1997) on the basis of a record by Claude Buckle of two specimens found in tufts of grass on cliffs between Whitehead and Blackhead, Co. Antrim, at the entrance to Belfast Lough, date around 1900 (Johnson & Halbert, 1902). We are not aware of any other published records of this species for Ireland.
