Annual global capacity for synthetic rubber reached 20.4 million tonnes in 2020.Asia accounted for 55 of the total capacity including 26 in China,according to the International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers.Most of the world's synthetic rubber expansion projects are within the Asian region,although some may be delayed due to the pandemic,said the association's general director of programs Rox-anna Petrovic,at the China Rubber Conference held in Qingdao,Shandong this April.The three materials with the largest capacity are BR,ESBR and SSBR,taking up 22,20 and 12 of global capacity respectively.All three are employed in tire manufacturing,said Petrovic.The world's 24 largest synthetic rubber makers control 80 of the global capacity.The largest three firms are Arlanxeo with 1.96 million tonnes annual capacity,Sinopec with 1.53 million tonnes and Pet-roChina with 1.29 million tonnes.
