At Duxford on Armistice Day, 11 November, the Historic Aircraft Collection's Spitfire Vb BM597 was rolled out in its new No 303 Squadron colour scheme. It now represents a fighter flown from RAF Northolt by Acting Wg Cdr Piotr Laguna on 27 June 1941, the day he was lost to enemy ground fire near Coquelles, near Calais. The BM597 unveiling date was also the 115th anniversary of the Polish pilot's birth, and Polish Independence Day. Following the recovery of the remains of the Spitfire II, P8331, in which Laguna was killed, a rebuild is planned, and the machine was registered as G-KOSC on 22 April to Spitfire P8331 Restoration.
