The York freighters weren't the only Avro 'heavies' to enter the Eagle fleet. In mid-October 1955, Lancaster VII NX739 arrived at Blackbushe on loan from the Ministry of Supply, with a very specific purpose in mind: use as an aerial photographic platform, its gun turrets modified with Perspex. While it retained its military serial and markings, it was flown by Eagle Aviation crews, and carried the company's logo. Duties included acting as an air-to-air photo-ship for ministry photographers to capture official images during the 1956 Farnborough show, while Flight's lensmen used it in the same role at other times.
